1. Your lab values stay on your device
The Lab Report Decoder, the A1c calculator, and the eGFR calculator run in your browser with JavaScript. The values you enter do not go to our server. Nothing is saved to a database. To test this, load a tool page and then switch off your internet. The calculator still works.
2. A note on HIPAA
HIPAA applies to covered entities. Doctors, health plans, and their business associates are examples. LabDecode is an educational website, so HIPAA does not govern us. We still avoid collecting health data. Since your lab values never reach us, we hold no medical records to protect or expose.
3. What we collect
- Analytics data. We use Google Analytics 4. It records page views, approximate location (country or region), browser and device type, how you found us, and how long you stayed. Google sets cookies for this purpose. We do not use it to identify you by name.
- Messages you send. If you email us or use the contact page, we get your name, email address, and message. We use them to reply.
- Server logs. Our web host may keep standard logs, such as IP address and requested page, for security and troubleshooting.
4. What we do not collect
- The lab values or results you enter into our tools.
- Your date of birth, insurance details, or medical records. Please do not email them to us.
- Payment details. LabDecode does not sell anything.
5. Google Analytics and cookies
Google acts as our analytics provider. It has its own privacy policy. You can block cookies in your browser settings. You can also install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. The site works without cookies.
6. We do not sell your information
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information. If we add ads or other third-party services later, we will update this page first and list the providers.
7. Your privacy choices
Some US states give residents rights over their data. California, Colorado, and Virginia are examples. Those rights can include access, deletion, and opting out of sale or sharing. Send a request through our contact page. We will reply within 45 days.
8. Children
LabDecode is written for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you think a child sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site grows. When we do, we change the date at the top. Read our Terms of Use and Medical Disclaimer for the other rules that apply here.
